But What's in a Name
But What's in a Name was the first short story that I ever completed. I remember that I wrote it in a single day, from start to finish. It was definitely a writing milestone for me. I don't know when I actually completed it, but I know that the first rejection letter was dated November 19, 1991. That was from Amazing Stories. Now, I guess the last laugh is mine. They're out of business. I'm not.
I say first rejection letter, but in reality, it's the only rejection letter I ever received (for But What's in a Name), because I only ever tried to submit it the one time. I stopped writing shortly after that.
I've often wondered what would've happened if I would've pursued publishing But What's in a Name. All I can say, now, is that it doesn't matter. I'm not disappointed about the way my life turned out. So, there it is.
