Number Two for Brains
Number Two for Brains is a story about a guy who isn't too bright. He ends up out in the woods where no one would expect to find him, and he's witness to a gruesome murder. His story is beyond belief to anyone he tells. Is it beyond your belief?
Update: Success! I submitted Number Two for Brains to The Monsters Next Door on Saturday June 28, 2008. On Wednesday, August 13, I rececived an email that it had been accepted!
The acceptence letter started off by telling me how hard it is to sell stories that are narrated by a slow or stupid person. The intentional spelling errors can really be off-putting for the reader and make the piece difficult to read. But then, she went on to say she liked the story and wanted to publish it in the #5 issue of The Monsters Next Door that comes out in mid-December 2008!
I agree with everything she said about it being hard to sell, and there are a lot of intentional misspellings in Number Two for Brains. When I wrote it, I thought that I might turn it into a Podcast, which would negate the misspelling problem. But I also had several people read it and everyone seemed to agree that the language wasn't too distracting, so I gave it a shot.
This is the third piece I've had accepted and I'm pleased to see it coming out in The Monsters Next Door!
Update: The Monsters Next Door published Number Two for Brains on December 16. 2008!
Update: I've decided that it's time to start sending this one out again. I think it would work well as a podcast, but I'm trying other markets too. Let's see how it comes out.
